TortoisesThe exact diet of your tortoise will vary a bit based on it's species, so further research is recommended. In general, there are 2 basic classes of tortoises when it comes to what they consume - leafy vegetation eaters and  fruit eaters. Many tortoises thrive on grasses and the like, while others require fruit, and even a bit of animal matter.  At Josh's Frogs, we carry the following products that are suitable to be part/all of your pet tortoise's diet: Tortoise Pellets (Exo Terra, Rep-Cal, T-Rex), Exo Terra Cup Diet, Repashy Grassland Grazer, Repashy Veggie Burger, Timberline Reptile Cactus, and Timberline Reptile Salad. Box TurtlesThey may look like a tortoise, but box turtles certainly are not! Box turtles are omnivores, and as such take in much more animal protein than tortoises do. Box turtles also like their greens, and will chow down on grasses, leafy veggies, and love the occasional brightly colored flower. We also recommend Box Turtle Pellets (Exo Terra, Rep-Cal), Exo Terra Box Turtle Cup Diets, Repashy Veggie Burger, Timberline Reptile Cactus, Timberline Reptile Salad,  and Nightcrawlers. Aquatic TurtlesAquatic turtles are opportunistic feeders, and many will not hesitate to eat animal or vegetable prey. Many floating food sticks make a great bulk diet for aquatic turtles, which provide everything your pet aquatic turtle needs to thrive. Josh's Frogs also recommends Aquatic Turtle Pellets (JurassiDiet, T-Rex, Exo Terra, Tetra Reptomin, Pisces, Rep-Cal), and Repashy Savory Stew. Bearded DragonsA staple of the pet industry, and one of the best beginner pet reptiles (I've worked with beardies since I was 12, so I may be a bit biased), bearded dragons are a very commonly kept reptile pet in the US. When young, bearded dragons consume mostly animal protein in the way of crickets, but as they age their demand for live prey diminishes and their need for vegetation grows. While insects may make up to 90% of a young dragon's diet, an adult bearded dragon (2 years or older) only needs animal protein to make up about 30-40% of it's total diet, or even less! We recommend feeding Crickets, Mealworms, Superworms, Waxworms, Phoenix Worms, Hornworms, Bearded Dragon Pellets (Exo Terra, Rep-Cal, JurassiDiet), Exo Terra Cup Diets, Repashy Veggie Burger, and Timberline Reptile Salad. IguanasIguanas are not as popular pets as they used to be, but are still commonly encountered in pet stores and at reptile shows. It's debatable as to the requirements for dietary animal protein (some insist young iguanas do require some animal protein, while others argue iguanas are vegetarians their entire life), but veggies will make up the bulk/all of your pet iguana's diet. Josh's Frogs recommends feeding Iguana Pellets (Exo Terra, Rep-Cal), Exo Terra Iguana Cup Diet, Repashy Veggie Burger, and Timberline Reptile Salad. Leopard GeckosAnother commonly kept pet lizard, leopard geckos are easy to feed. Strict insectivores, leopard geckos will consume animals for their entire life. At Josh's Frogs, we recommend feeding your leopard geckos Crickets, Mealworms, Superworms, Waxworms, Phoenix Worms, and JurassiDiet Easy Insects. Crested GeckosCrested geckos have taken the reptile industry by storm over the past decade. Easy to breed and keep, crested geckos inhabit every pet store or exotic pet expo I've attended in the past 10 years. Crested geckos are also very easy to feed. Both Repashy Crested Gecko Diet and Big Fat Geckos Diet are complete diets for your pet crested gecko - just add water! The occasional cricket or fruit baby food will be appreciated, as well. Day GeckosDay geckos are another popular pet lizard. In the wild, day geckos consume mainly nectar, lap up fruit, and devour insects. In captivity, there are a couple prepared diets that work well, in addition to dusted crickets and the occasional blob of fruit baby food or honey. When they're not trying to sell you auto insurance, we recommend feeding your pet day gecko Crickets, Repashy Day Gecko Diet, and Repashy Grubs 'N' Fruit. ChameleonsKnown for their zygodactylus feet and turreted eyes, chameleons are certainly a unique pet. Fortunately, chameleons are also quite easy to feed. The vast majority of species consume entirely insects. A few species, such as the commonly kept veiled chameleon, will partake in eating a little vegetation from time to time. At Josh's Frogs, we recommend feeding your pet chameleon Hydei Fruit Flies (babies), Crickets, Waxworms, Phoenix Worms, or Hornworms. Newly hatched chameleons love to eat hydei fruit flies. Monitors and TegusMonitors and Tegus encompass a large number of species, so make sure to research the dietary needs of the species you're interested in keeping. In general, monitors are carnivorous, while tegus are much more omnivorous, doing better with some fruit in their diet. We recommend feeding Crickets, Mealworms, Superworms, Waxworms, Phoenix Worms, Hornworms, and Repashy Meat Pie. Poison Dart FrogsSmall, colorful, and more popular than ever before, chances are you've seen a poison dart frog (and probably want to keep one as a pet!). Perfectly harmless in captivity due to their diet (they only produce toxins when they eat certain bugs from the wild), poison dart frogs are microphagus - they eat small prey under 1/8"" in length. At Josh's Frogs, we specialize in dart frogs, and offer a wide variety of feeder insects for them, such as Melanogaster Fruit Flies, Hydei Fruit Flies, Springtails, Isopods, Pinhead Crickets, Rice Flour Beetles, and Extra Small Phoenix Worms. Tree FrogsTree Frogs eat bugs. 'Nuff said! Relatively easy to feed, as long as the prey is moving and of an appropriate size, chances are you pet tree frog will want to eat it. At Josh's Frogs, we feed our tree frogs mainly Crickets and Phoenix Worms. ToadsThere are a lot of toad species out there, but fortunately they all consume insects. Size of the prey item will greatly depend on the size of the toad in question (bumble bee toads can eat small foods like fruit flies, while larger toads cannot). In general, Crickets and Phoenix Worms are a great diet for most toad species. Aquatic FrogsAquatic Frogs are frequently encountered wherever fish are sold. Like fish, a variety of pelleted foods exist that are perfect for you pet aquatic frog.  JurassiPet Newt and Aquatic Frog Food and Pisces Frog & Tadpole Bites are two great pelleted diets. Bloodworms make a great treat. Praying MantidsMany of our customers also keep a pet praying mantis. Right after they hatch until 2-3 weeks, melanogaster fruit flies are a great dietary choice. From 3 to about 6 weeks, hydei fruit flies are eagerly consumed. After that, crickets are an easily provided diet for your pet praying mantis. Please keep in mind that this list is not meant to be a definitive guide of what to feed your pet, only to inform you what's available for your animal from Josh's Frogs. All feeder insects and fruits/veggies fed should be dusted with an appropriate vitamin/mineral supplement.
