In recent years, bioactive enclosure design has taken the American exotic pet hobby by storm; yet in Europe, this technique has been used for decades. It plays an important role in husbandry and breeding success for many reptiles and amphibians that are otherwise challenging to keep in captivity. Properly prepared bioactive enclosures require far less upkeep while providing an environment that better replicates what your pets would encounter in the wild.
Traditionally, bioactivity is achieved and supported in a frog enclosure through the use of a layered substrate. This proven method supports naturalistic elements like live plants, fungi, as well as tiny bug janitors which make cleaning and maintenance easier.
