Exo Terra Glass Terrarium (18X18X18)

This terrarium is equivalent to 20 gallons. This is acceptable for holding 2-4 small captive bred hermit crabs for some time, depending on their growth rate. As they grow, they will eventually need to be moved over to an aquarium that can accommodate deeper substrate. We do not recommend this for hermit crabs with shells larger than 1" across.

Glass Top (for 18x18 footprint Exo Terra glass terrariums)

Glass tops are necessary for maintaining a high humidity environment. This will replace the screen that terrariums typically come with and is already cut to perfectly fit an 18x18 terrarium.

Josh's Frogs BioBedding HERMIT CRAB Bioactive Substrate (4 quarts)

Josh's Frogs BioBedding HERMIT CRAB Bioactive Substrate (4 quarts) is a premixed substrate that creates the right environment for hermit crabs to live and molt in while also supporting the growth of select hermit crab-safe plants! Feel free to replace with one bag of the 10 Quart version, but a bag of playsand will need to be picked up from a local home improvement store. There will also be some left over. 

Josh's Frogs Hermit Crab Salt (Makes 8 gallons of Salt Water)

Josh's Frogs Hermit Crab Salt is a marine salt mix that comes in a resealable bag and includes a measuring scoop to make giving salt to your hermit crabs easy! Hermit crabs have access to the ocean in the wild and also require it in captivity to live their best lives.

Water Bowls

These water bowls are shallow - the perfect size for small hermit crabs to submerge themselves in. Two are recommended: one for a fresh water pool and another for the salt water pool.

Josh's Frogs Dechlorinator Tap Water Conditioner (16 oz)

If you have tap water at home, a dechlorinator is necessary! Josh's Frogs Dechlorinator Tap Water Conditioner has an easy dispensing cap that is ideal for treating small amounts of water at a time.

Digital Terrarium Thermometer-Hygrometer

We recomend always keeping an eye on the temperature and humidity. These readings can change frequently, especially with seasonal changes. Baby hermit crabs have a much softer exoskeleton and will not tolerate poor conditions as well older individuals. If the humidity is too low, they cannot breathe. If it is too high, their exoskeleton could breakdown. Place in the center of the tank as much as possible for accurate readings. Protect wires from hermit crabs as they will try to eat them.

Heat Mat

This heat mat will fit the back of the tank above the substrate line, providing warmth for your hermit crabs without cooking or drying them out. Use with a thermostat (not included) for even more accurate temperatures.

This light provides bright white light to simulate the 12 hours of light they would receive in the wild and also helps plants grow.

This large planter mat has pockets perfect for either air plants or bromeliads or for hermit crabs! Hermit crabs love climbing and hiding in it. This mat will likely have to be trimmed to fit.

Small Food Dish

This small flat dish is an easy food dish for small hermit crabs to eat out of.

This small coconut hide is perfect for small hermit crabs. Stuff with moss to make it extra cozy!

Josh's Frogs Chilean Sphagnum Moss (100g bag)

This is undyed and safe moss for hermit crabs. They enjoy hiding in it and eating it. It can also solve humidity issues. Too humid, add dry moss to absorb excess moisture. Too dry, add wet moss to add moisture to the air. It can also be used to plant epiphytic plants in the plant kit.

Clean up Crew- Porcellionides pruinosus 'Powder Orange' Isopods and Springtails

These small insects will keep your hermit crab tank clean! The springtails will eat mold that can sometimes be an issue in the humid warm environment and the isopods will eat droppings.
