About This Product

Josh's Frogs Dart Frog Breeding Kit provides everything you need to successfully breed thumbnail poison dart frogs and raise their tadpoles. Josh's Frogs is the leader in keeping and breeding poison dart frogs, and this kit allows you to easily breed a wide number of poison dart frog species and morphs.

The Dart Frog Breeding Kit is focused on the smaller species of dart frogs, including Dendrobates ventrimaculatusDendrobates lamasiDendrobates imitator, and a number of the Epipedobates (such as E. anthonyi). If you are interested in breeding larger species of dart frogs, please check out Josh's Frogs Dart Frog Breeding Kit.

This Dart Frog Breeding Kit includes:

Film Canister with Suction Cup x 6

Film canisters mimic the favorite laying spots of thumbnail dart frogs in the wild, mainly curled dried leaves or the leaf axils of plants. Different species of dart frogs will have different preferences in color and orientation of film cans, so Josh's Frogs recommends attaching the film cans to the glass with the suction cups and tilting them at different angles. Some species of poison dart frogs will prefer the film canisters placed horizontally on the ground, as well.

Try different levels of water in the film canisters until you find out what works best for the species of poison dart frogs in question. Most poison dart frogs that lay in film canisters will lay right above the water's surface, while some (such as Dendrobates ventrimaculatus) will lay in the water. Many species of poison dart frogs will transport and deposit tadpoles to film canisters full of water.

Or upgrade the kit with an Exo Terra Dart Frog Bromeliad, it looks like a realistic bromeliad and has a removable cup for easy cleaning and retrieving of eggs/tadpoles!

Josh's Frogs Dart Frog Tadpole Food (2 oz)

Josh's Frogs Dart Frog Tadpole Food is a tried and true dendrobatid tadpole diet at Josh's Frogs! This special formulation of animal and plant proteins, algae, natural color enhancers, omega fatty acids, and trace elements provides dart frog tadpoles with the nutrition they need to thrive!

Developed over the past decade for use in our own breeding programs, Josh's Frogs Dart Frog Tadpole Food is pelleted and ready to use. Just shake before feeding to ensure the powder component of the diet covers the pellets, and you're ready to go! Do not feed tadpoles until they are 5-7 days old. At that point, feed 1 pellet 1-3 times a week for the first 4 weeks. After that, feed 2-3 pellets at a time.

Josh's Frogs Dart Frog Tadpole Food will not cloud the water when used properly. If water clouds, or uneaten food is visible after 3 hours, remove uneaten food and perform a 30% water change.

16 oz Tadpole Cups (20 pack)

Josh's Frogs recommends rearing poison dart frog tadpoles individually in 16 oz tadpole cups, due to their cannibalistic nature. The tadpole cup is initially filled with about 8 oz of tadpole tea for new tadpoles, then fill compltely with tadpole tea a week later. Evaporated water is replaced with distilled or reverse osmosis water.

8 oz deli cup and lid x 10

The 8 oz deli cup and lid is where poison dart frog egg clutches will be incubated. Place the film canister containing eggs in the 8 oz container after pouring a small amount (less than an ounce) of tadpole tea into the bottom of the 8 oz deli cup - this will help prevent your poison dart frog eggs from drying out. The film canister can be attached to the side of the 8 oz deli cup with the suction cup. Attempt to keep the film canister in the same orientation it was in when the eggs were laid. Then, cover the deli cup with the lid and label the species/morph the eggs came from. Place the developing egg clutch in an area that will stay between 70 - 76F.

Indian Almond Leaves (5 pack)

Indian Almond leaves contain tannins that have numerous antibacterial and antifungal properties that help keep poison dart frog tadpoles healthy, as well as lower the pH of tadpole tea. Poison dart frog tadpoles will also feed on indian almond leaves throughout development. At Josh's Frogs, we cut indian almond leaves into 1.5" squares. Each tadpole cup gets 1 square of indian almond leaf in it. Indian almond leaves can also be boiled or soaked in water to produce tadpole tea.

Waste Remover

The Waste Remover is basically a glorified turkey baster, but costs less! Great for sucking tadpoles out of bromeliads or petri dishes and moving them into their tadpole cup. The Marina Betta Waste Remover is also perfect for sucking out uneaten food or waste from the tadpole cup.

Josh's Frogs Dechlorinator Tap Water Conditioner (4 oz)

Josh's Frogs Dechlorinator Tap Water Conditioner makes neutral pH or soft tap water safe for tadpoles by neutralizing harmful chlorine or chloramines. If you have particularly hard tap water, or well water, you may want to use R/O or distilled water from a store for your tadpoles.
