About This Product

Unit quantities are measured by weight. 4 oz. cups contain about 250 blue bottle fly larvae (active or pupated)!

Blue Bottle Fly Spikes (Calliphora vomitoria) are a great way to add some variety to an exotic pet's diet, and make a nutritious feeder insect. Blue Bottle Fly Spikes are about 1/4-1/2 inch in length when sold. Blue Bottle Fly Spikes are great options for reptiles such as leopard geckos, crested geckos, fat-tailed geckos, bearded dragons, chameleons and many other reptiles, amphibians, birds, fish, and invertebrates. Wild birds love Blue Bottle Fly Spikes! If you are looking for a quality, low fat source of protein and calcium for your pet Blue Bottle Fly Spikes are a great option for you!

How to Feed: Blue Bottle Fly Spikes can be fed using a feeding dish or feeding tongs. Offer as many Blue Bottle Fly Spikes as your pet can consume in 5 minutes. Any escapees may burrow into the substrate and pupate.

Blue Bottle Fly Spikes can also be pupated and allowed to become blue metallic flies similar in size to house flies. To pupate, leave the larvae in a larger container at room temperature for a few days. If the substrate apears to be dry add enough water to make it slightly damp. Flies can be given to chameleons, tree frogs, anoles, and other exotic pets as enrichment - a mentally stimulating addition to a nutritious diet! Place the adult Blue Bottle Flies in the fridge for several minutes to slow them down, making moving them into your pet's enclosure easier.

How to Store: Blue Bottle Fly Spikes should be kept in the fridge as they do well in temperatures between 33F and 40F. Keep spikes stored on the damp sawdust they're packaged in for a longer shelf life.

Please note: because of elevated temperatures during shipping, your blue bottle fly spikes may arrive pupated! In this case, either store the pupae in the fridge until you're ready to hatch them out into flies, or leave them at room temperature and you'll have blue bottle flies ready to feed out in 2-4 days.

We also carry a huge variety of feeder insects, shipped right to your door for an everyday low price!

Great

My chameleons really loved hunting these guys down but I was not prepared for all of them to pupate at the same time! I will definitely buy again but I have learned to keep in the fridge and add smaller amounts to the cage to pupate!

x200 BBfly spikes

I have always wondered about these for my mantids and once finally ordering some a few months back, they are amazing! I kept them out until they started to pupate then once they started coming out they went into the fridge. I would leave they out long enough to hatch the amount needed and then chill them. As long as they are chilled they are super easy to feed out and my many of my mantid species prefer fling insects and these definitely filled that void!

Swarms of food

Once I received these I immediately put them under refrigeration as they were already pupated(pretty hot in the southeast). A few days later I pulled out around 40 and set them in the enclosures in their own hatching container. Today a few have started to fly and are eating the gutload. Tomorrow I will unlid these guys and watch my chams chase them around the enclosure. This is a great feeder to provide the "hunt" that often is overlooked when hand feeding or cup feeding. I highly recommend these as they are super easy to keep and feed with little mess. Prices are some of the most reasonable considering Josh's Frogs carries so many other essentials for your pet.
