Ceropegia woodii (also known as String of Hearts) is a succulent-like vine native to the southern portions of Africa. What makes this vine so special is the adorable heart shaped leaves. Depending on how much light it receives, the color of the leaves can range from light to dark green and have heavy white veining. There is another variety of this plant that has variegated leaves.

Ceropegia woodii looks beautiful in a pot or hanging basket and will cascade down over the sides and has the ability to get very long. It can be easily kept in check by pruning. This plant reproduces by forming lumpy, round tubers which appear like something that came from deep space. This is a very interesting looking plant and fairly easy to care for. Keep it in bright, indirect light and normal household temperatures. Water only when the soil dries out or the roots will rot. Make sure you have it in a well drained soil mix.

Ceropegia woodii – String of Hearts can be used in vivariums and animal terrariums if it is planted in an area that is very well drained. The fastest way to kill this plant is to overwater or let the roots sit in water.
