About This Product

Hoya cf. panchoi (also known as Wax Plant,) is a beautiful variety with thick green leaves, some of which will develop a dark pink coloration. The pink and yellow flower clusters are tiny, but are bursting with a sweet fragrance. Hoyas are native to many countries in Asia and can be found growing epiphytically and also in the soil. They are very popular houseplants due to ease of care, very unique appearance, and sweet smelling attractive and geometrical blooms. Being a member of the Milkweed family, it produces blooms in spring and summer consisting of clusters of many small, star-shaped flowers that tend to produce large amounts of nectar. In suitable temperatures, this plant can be grown outdoors where its nectar will attract beneficial wildlife, such as honeybees and butterflies. The blooms are so perfect in shape and form that many people unfamiliar with the plant may be surprised to find out it is indeed a real plant at first glance.

For better bloom production, it is recommended to keep this plant a bit root bound. Hoyas require a well draining succulent soil with adequate drainage at the bottom of the container. Water it about once per week or when the soil is almost dry.  Hoyas are considered slow growers and may take a few years to develop their blooms. It is important to not remove the leafless “spurs” that grow at the end of the rope vines. Although not as attractive as the rest of the plant, these spurs are where the blooms will form. Keep in full to part sun for best results.

USDA Hardiness Zone 10

Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplant:

This plant can do well in most container gardens with good drainage until it outgrows the container. The trailing growth habit makes it an excellent choice for a hanging basket outdoors or on a patio.

Josh's Frogs offers a wide variety of glass terrariumscontainer garden soilsdrainage layers and other supplies for all of your indoor gardening needs.

Vivariums/Animal Terrariums:

Being a succulent preferring well draining soil on the more dry side of the spectrum, this plant is not recommended for vivariums. It can be used in drier animal terrariums where it will not be exposed to constant moisture. Hoyas require very bright light so make sure to plant in a spot where it can receive the best light.

As good practice, Josh's Frogs recommends washing all plants thoroughly removing as much soil as possible with dechlorinated water before placing them in their final home. Plants from Josh’s Frogs are specifically grown to be safe for use with animals. Live plants may vary in color, size and appearance.

Great Hoya

This is a very cute hoya. It shipped very well and packaged very well. Minimal soil disturbance from shipping. It did not seem to suffer from any visible shipping stress. Excited to see this plant grow out more.
