(4)Josh's Frogs Vermiculite is an old standby of experienced reptile breeders. Vermiculite is considered by many to be the ultimate incubation media for many species of reptiles. Easy to use and inexpensive, Josh's Frogs vermiculite allows you to properly incubate and hatch healthy, robust offspring.
Recommended Animals:
Care: Add clean, distilled or Reverse Osmosis water to the Vermiculite at a 1:1 ratio, but only make as much as you are going to use. Vermiculite does not store well damp.
Check for recommendations with the specific animal you’re working with. Never reuse Vermiculite.
Vermiculite is not recommended as a sole substrate for growing mushrooms, as it has a neutral pH and mushrooms need a more acidic pH.
Not sure if this is the right substrate for your pet? Josh's Frogs also offers Coco Select, Dig It, ABG Mix, Coco Cradle, BioBedding, incubation media, feeder insect beddings, various shredded barks like Aspen, Cypress, Pine, and more!
This product ships to your doorstep. Most orders placed before 2pm ET on business days will ship out the same day.

I noticed that my crickets didn't take to peat moss or coco fiber nearly as much as vermiculite when laying eggs. Excellent at holding moisture! I've considered using this as a substrate for the entire enclosure because it greatly reduces smell, even in cages with frequent cleaning. A little more expensive than buying it from a garden center, but I'd gladly pay a few dollars more for the peace of mind knowing that this is pet-grade quality.

I ordered this to use raising crickets instead of the coco fiber. So far, it's worked great and you get MORE than enough to last you a good long while and many, many cycles of crickets. Much easier to use, especially when adding water as it soaks right in as opposed to beading up or setting on the surface and needing to be mixed in. 2-1/2 c. this + 3/4 c. water and you're set to go. It also seems to holds in moisture much better than the coco fiber. I was having to mist my crate / incubator twice a day to keep the coco fiber from totally drying out but this holds in the moisture so well, I haven't needed to mess with it at all and this first batch is on day 5. I think it's safe to say I'm done using coco fiber for crickets anymore, this stuff is great. As always Josh's shipped fast and I received it in good order.

The reason I am rating it 5 stars instead of lower even though I haven't even opened it yet is for the mere fact that its basically the pure form of Joshs Pro Hatch, without all the awesome little extras. I know I will find some use for it, so I snatched it up in my recent purchase with Joshs Frogs Pro Hatch, and Joshs frogs coco disks.
