About This Product

Methyl paraben is a widely used compound naturally found in blueberries. It has a variety of antifungal and antimicrobial effects that have been used to help prevent spoilage in consumables since the early 1900s.

Make your own fruit fly media? This mold inhibitor will prevent mold from developing in your fruit fly media—it's what we use at Josh's Frogs in our world famous fruit fly media. Just add 4 teaspoons of methyl paraben to 10 cups of your media. No need to use vinegar anymore!

1 pound of methyl paraben is enough to make 360 cups of mold-free fruit fly media, or 720 half-cup cultures! Methyl paraben is cheaper than using vinegar, doesn't cause your culture to dry out like vinegar does, and is odorless!

Methyl paraben is also used in several widely used beauty products and cosmetics (at a rate of 0.01% to 0.3%), as well as a food preservative (up to 0.1%).

Great Product!

The shipping chart gives an accurate description of how fast your product will arrive, and my methylparaben looked exactly like in the picture! This was the only place I could get this for science fair, so I am very happy with this product.

Methyl Paraben to inhibit black mold

If you plan on making lots of cultures, especially in warm climates, MP is a better, more cost effective solution than adding vinegar to your mix. Down in Florida, where I live, mold spores are always present, and it isn't long before a fly culture begins to turn black, without something to inhibit the mold growth.

This is a very cost efficient way to keep the mold out of FF cultures and the speed of delivery was great. I have been and will continue to be a Josh's Frogs customer because of their polite, knowledgeable, and friendly service.
