Pachira aquatica - Braided Bonsai Money Tree (also known as the Malabar Chestnut) is a member of the mallow family of plants known as Malvaceae. It can be found in parts of Central and South America growing in tropical wetlands and swamps. According to Chinese legend, good luck and fortune will follow when you have a Money Tree in your home. Pachira aquatica is a very popular plant to be used in Feng Shui and also for Bonsai. Pachira aquatica is often confused with Pachira glabra in the trade and mislabeled. They are very close in appearance and hard to tell apart by just looking at the foliage. This plant has a braided trunk which makes it a very interesting houseplant. In the wild, this plant can reach heights of 60 feet and will flower and produce a nut. Pachira aquatica needs bright light and moist soil.
