We are excited to be able to offer this plant to our customers because it's rare not that easy to find.

Selaginella serpens is part of the Selanginellaceae (or spikemoss) family of plants. This particular spikemoss can be found in Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. It has a growth habit the same as other spikemoss as it stays low to the ground and creeps outward. The tiny leaves are green and will change to a lighter color at night. It does spread but can be easily kept under control with pruning. Keep in bright, indirect light and high humidity. The substrate should be moist but not wet.

Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplant:

Selaginellas can do well in terrariums due to their high humidity needs. They can be grown as a houseplant if the environment is suitable and will cascade over the sides of pots and hanging baskets.

Vivariums/Animal Terrariums:

Being tropical, this plant does great in the high moisture environment of a well-drained vivarium. It will expand to create a great groundcover that can be trimmed if necessary. It should be placed in the foreground of the vivarium and will provide great groundcover for most fauna with its wiry, bushy foliage.

As good practice, Josh's Frogs recommends washing all plants thoroughly removing as much soil as possible with dechlorinated water before placing them in their final home.  Plants from Josh’s Frogs are specifically grown to be safe for use with animals. Live plants may vary in color, size and appearance.
