The Complete Mantella Breeding Kit is perfect for a group of 4-6 mantellas. This is a simple setup based on our own breeding enclosures, which make it easy to monitor the mantellas and collect eggs/tadpoles.
This habitat kit includes:
- Glass enclosure with proper light fixture and bulbs
- Simple substrate to facilitate breeding and egg collection
- Accessories and decor to make your life easier when keeping mantellas
Setting up this tank is simple.
- Rinse out the included 18x18x18 glass tank with clean water, then dry.
- Cut 2" off of one side of the included frog foam, then place it in the tank, so there is a 2" gap between the front of the tank and the frog foam. This will act as a pond and water source for your mantellas, helping to maintain humidity and providing them a place to drop off tadpoles.
- Expand the sphagnum moss in dechlorinated water, then spread out a 1-2" layer on top of the frog foam.
- Place the cork pieces on the sphagnum. This will provide cover for the mantellas. Oftentimes, you'll find egg clutches laid under the cork in the sphagnum.
- Place the LED bulbs into the compact top, then place that on top of the enclosure. Run the lights for 12 hours a day.
- Monitor the humidity closely. Maintain a humidity level of 60% or higher. The sphagnum moss will have to be kept damp, and there should always be water visible in the 'pond' along the front of the enclosure. Mist frequently.
